In an effort to encourage economic development through tourism and environmental awareness, the 19th edition of Master Of The Ocean will take place from February 22 to 26, 2024. This unique event hopes to bring together more than 70 top watersports athletes from 12 countries. The event is a valuable contributor to the local economy with the promotion of extreme sports, tourism and sustainable development.
Its organizers are German watersports pioneer Marcus Bohm and the communicator Patricia Hiraldo. Master Of The Ocean is not only an extreme water sports festival, but also an established 20 year initiative which is a great indicator of progress in this area.
Surfing events like the Master of the Ocean bring together local and international tourists, lovers of action in the water, adventure and the beach lifestyle. “The creation of high-quality action content and the dissemination of images of our tropical beaches and warm people carry the message of the sports and adventure destination par excellence that is Cabarete; This is a significant contribution to our country and its economy, based on tourism,” said Patricia Hiraldo. "We have established a strategic agreement with DIGO Hispanic Media, the premium Hispanic audience network that covers more than 55 Spanish-language media in Spain and Latin America with a presence in its local markets and the United States. This reach translates into connection with more than 30 million Hispanics in the United States and more than 500 million users worldwide. DIGO Hispanic Media will actively participate in our advertising campaign for the event, disseminating content and promoting advertisements through its various channels, a support that will strengthen visibility and impact of our event.”
The North Shore has seen an unprecedented resurgence since the pandemic, with real estate investment of over $150 million with 90+ new residential and hospitality projects. Most property buyers in the Cabarete have visited the area multiple times before investing and many are involved in water sports.
International Collaboration and Social Commitment: German Embassy in Support of Aquatic Sports and the German Community on the North Coast.
Ms. Maike Friedrichsen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic will host a cocktail dedicated to German athletes and the German community in Cabarete, creating a moment of solidarity within the framework of the event. Her support reinforces the work of Marcus Bohm, a native of the Bavaria region, who has lived in Cabarete for more than three decades promoting water sports on the North Coast as a means to empower children who face vulnerable living conditions.
The Master Of The Ocean pre-release press conference was held at Drifter and Carib Wind, facing the warm waters of Cabarete Bay.
Recognition of Sportsmanship and Community Spirit: The Singular Award of the Champion of Barbados, Brian Talma.
During the February event, athlete Brian Talma, winner of the highest Master Of The Ocean award 2023 Overall, will present an original award called Beach Culture World Tour. This recognition will go to the athlete with the greatest sportsmanship and spirit during the competition, promoting fundamental values such as camaraderie and resilience; Talma also seeks to highlight the art, culture and organic tourism of each destination he visits.
Once again, in an effort to inspire the younger generations, Master Of The Ocean will include "Community Day", a day especially dedicated to children and the community with talks and other fun activities centered around environmental awareness, coral conservation, waste management and plastic recycling practices among other environmental issues.
